Be Still My Soul (He’s On Your Side)

You have a sincere desire that the Lord be first in your life. Your heart echoes with the Jesus words found in Luke 10:27, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'”

You’ve taken seriously His instruction of Matthew 6:33 to make the Kingdom of God and His righteousness your highest priority.

Your decision was excellent. You felt it. You meant it. You set yourself on a course of forming a habit that would align your actions with your soul’s desire.

Then as you began enjoying this new mindset and lifestyle, you drifted away from your heart and into your head. You started over thinking and second-guessing yourself. You allowed the whispers of your inner critic question you. You wondered if you were entirely sincere enough to please the Lord.

Suddenly, during a recent early morning quiet time, the Holy Spirit brought a song to mind. In was the group Selah’s version of, “Be Still My Soul.”

You’d pre-determined the course you were going to follow for devotion this particular morning. Instead of following through with your plan, you became distracted. It wasn’t a sinful temptation. Instead, you watched a YouTube video of one of your favorite people you’d been following. (Aventures in Nomadic Living). The thought was that the video was short. You’d watch it for fun, then move into your time with the Lord. But, now, you felt discouraged that you hadn’t made focused time with the Lord your priority.

Then the song, “Be Still My Soul” was on your mind. At the same time, you heard the inner thought, “The Lord knows everything about you. He knows what you enjoy. He is very familiar with the desires of your heart.”

The most sincere heart is not able to go from zero to sixty in two seconds no matter how determined they are. The Lord knows this.
He is the reader of hearts. He understands each person’s own twists and turns of mind and soul.

Paul tells the Corinthians (1 Cor. 4:3) that he is not critical of himself. Self-judgement does not burden him. That’s one of the devil’s favorite tools to impede a Believer’s progress.

The person that has made the quality choice to make the Lord number one in their lives will be on a journey of intent. That’s what the Lord sees and knows. That’s what the Lord loves.

Don’t be discouraged! As they say (whoever ‘they’ is), “Just keep trukin'” Stay the course. The Lord knows you, your heart, and your desires.

“Be still my soul, the Lord is on your side.”

As It Is In Heaven

As it is in heavenWhat does “as it is in heaven” look like?  I believe that there would be great benefit to our faith, if we would do more pondering on phrases included in the prayer taught by Jesus.

Kingdom Characteristics Revealed

As we are awakened to God’s Kingdom desires for the earth, we discover a great deal by considering the phrases of the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples.

We’ve Been Taught Many Things

In the past several years, I have come to appreciate the “power teachings” of movements known as “Word of Faith,” and “Revival Culture.”  A good awakening has taken place regarding the aspects of mental, emotional, and physical health being for the “now” of our lives and not simply heaven’s atmosphere in the future.

NDE Testimonies

For the past few years I’ve put time and research into what’s been termed “Near Death Experiences” where people often die physically (near death being experiences “near to” AFTER rather than before).

The vast majority of these testimonials talk about the feelings of overwhelming love and acceptance.

As I’ve Been Pondering the Kingdom on Earth

If we are praying that God’s Kingdom would manifest on earth as it is in heaven, then would it not logically follow that the earthly expression of God’s Kingdom would be the increasing reality of …

….Overwhelming Love and acceptance.

The Primary Manifestation

The primary manifestation that God’s Kingdom is present in our lives and activities is the experience and motivation of love for one another.

I don’t mean the “Hallmark Card” warm fuzzy variety…although there are certainly warm feelings inseparably involved.   I mean the “lay down your life” CROSS reality with one another.  Not only for friends…but even those considered to be enemies.

A Faith People

This leads me to believe that true operational faith does not come from how many scriptures verses you declare over your situations, etc.  But…

Ask for an increase in your life of Holy Spirit produced “God Style” unconditional love.  According to the scriptures, it is love that motivates our faith.

Like the song says, “What the world needs is love.”   Not just any love, but the overwhelming love and acceptance that God IS.

Seek as your highest priority of life, God’s reality and expression of Kingdom LOVE.

Taking Control That Brings Best

ControlWe want our lives to be good, happy, full, and satisfying.

We attempt to put many “gears” in place that will produce our ultimate desires.  We try to figure out what the “drive gear” will be.  We put that gear in place and – once again – we.miss.the.mark.

His Living Nature

The goodness, happiness, fullness, and satisfying-ness that we so desire – if truth be told – is sum and substance of what is already near.  What we crave is the dominion of God’s Kingdom; Because the qualities of life that we desire are the “personality” of His Living Nature – His Kingdom.

The “Drive Gear” can only be His Kingdom — His Nature.

Seek to Experience Him and His Life

When we (seek first) diligently pursue as our highest priority God’s Kingdom, we are determining to know and experience the qualities of His Life.

He Gave Us the Right and Potential Power

When God created mankind, He fashioned them to look and be like Him.  He then said “take dominion.”  Of course, when God gave man that instruction, there was no sin present.  Therefore taking dominion wasn’t self-serving domination.

Dominion:  The Rights and Powers of Love

When God told man to take dominion, He was instructing Him to exercise the nature of Himself that He had woven into man’s fabric.

God was saying, “Walk like Me in the home that I have given you.”

He was NOT SAYING, “Pretend to be Me.”  There is only One God and Father.  Instead, He was telling man that He had freely created him with God-like authority and power.  And He was saying, “Use it.”

Refreshed Way of Thinking

On this whole issue, we really need a transformed way of Being that comes from a renewed way of thinking.

We’ve spend sooo long drawing our existence from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil that we have forgotten how to be alive.

Jesus Returned Our Lost Rights and Power

Jesus has given mankind the right and authority to be sons and daughters of the Kingdom with FULL ACCESS to the Tree of Life.

Many of us have exercised that right to live by the Tree of Life.  However, we have such ingrained habits of looking to the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (Right and Wrong) while we are, at the same time, basking in the shade of the Tree of Life, that we still do not effectively know the rights and powers of the Tree of Life.

May I suggest that a synonym for The Tree of Life is The Kingdom of God.

Let’s put our highest priority on seeking and having eyes to see the Governance of His Life.

It’s my goal.  I hope you will make it yours.
