The Hope of Being Human

It is my considered opinion – and I believe I’m correct – that most people view “being human” much differently than God does.  We tend to see it as a reason for weakness.  God sees it as a validation of strength.

Here’s what we read in Genesis 2:7

“And the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living soul.”

The declarations about the potential of being human in Genesis 1 & 2 are profound.  To be human is to be all that God originally created and equipped human beings for.

Being “human” is a blessing not a curse.

Of course we then see in Genesis 3 that human beings (in Adam and Eve) fell from God’s plan and purpose for humans.  In so doing, I believe it is completely accurate to say that mankind was plunged into the category of being “sub-human.”

Jesus as a human, without sin, re-established God’s original plan.  Now “humans” have the Way to be reintroduced to being fully human as a new creation filled with the breath of His Spirit.

Seeing as God sees is so important to our success in re-presenting Jesus to our generation.  And, I believe a part of mind renewal is to see yourself as fully human and fully alive from God’s perspective.

I’m human and proud of it!  The potential of Spirit empowered humanity is profound.  Yes, at times I think and act “sub-human,” but I label it what it is.  Sin is sub-human.  But that is not where my thoughts dwell.

King David said in Psalm 139:14, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,  I know that full well.”

As human beings in Christ Jesus we have huge hope!  Call yourself what you truly are!
